Worthwhile article in the February issue of NFU's Countryside magazine. Extract: "BNG rules require major developments in England to leave the habitats around them in a measurably better state than they were before construction began. Essentially, not only must applicable developments restore any biodiversity lost during the building phase, but they must also deliver a minimum 10% boost to the area's biodiversity as well. Those enhancements could include habitat creation, the re-introduction of species, the restoration of rivers, or any of myriad other initiatives.
The UK Green Building Council has enthusiastically supported the need to put the protection and enhancement of nature at the heart of built environments and the group has criticized plans to streamline the BNG requirements for small and medium sized residential development schemes."

There are exemptions (of course there are) but this is something we should be asking about at tomorrow's engagement event at Box End Park. If this project goes ahead, we need to make sure we are going to get the very best from it.
Happy to provide the article if anyone wants to read it.
