OP
If you have followed the planning application for the Grace Church development at Church End you will have seen many people citing concerns about flooding, parking and access to the site with considerable concern about increased traffic . Beds BC turned down the application for different reasons :
1. the possible damage to the ford across the river by the church and
2. the possible damage to the listed cottage on the land alongside Cemetery Road.
I thought this most unusual so decided to search for the history of Gibraltar Corner.
There is a document on file at the council . In December 2021, Cotswold Archaeology was commissioned by Bedford Borough Council to undertake a Heritage Appraisal in respect of land at Home Road, Gibraltar Corner .
It is called:
Cotswold Archaeology Allocation Site342
Land at Home Road/Gebraltar Corner Kempston Bedford
Kempston House is mentioned and the need to preserve ancient buildings and at that time there was no concern about land adjacent to that house .
Now however if extensive building works happen :that situation will change and we might be able to cite that as a reason for not giving permission to build there.
Also there is evidence of historical sites possibly in the viscinity .
Perhaps you might like to read the document and see if there is anything we can use ...after all a 'ford' across the river at the All Saints Church was enough to refuse planning permossion at Church End !!
Do read it and see what you think. Maybe there is a Roman Villa or Neolithic remains that should not be covered up by a housing estate ?
Does anyone know the origin of the name Gibraltar ? Or why Ibbett Close was built but only used half of the field ?
We have to find reasons to refuse planning permission !
